How to play

Eleven footballers, one grid, no clues but the title. The title says what the eleven have in common — a final, a squad, a season — and that is the whole of what you are given. Nothing is revealed at the start.

Type a full name into an entry. Every letter comes back marked: right letter in the right square, right letter in the wrong square, or not in the name at all.

Twenty-five turns, shared across the board. A wrong answer spends one; a right answer hands one back. Solving an entry gives its letters to everything that crosses it, so the board opens up as you go.

A hint costs four points and fills one letter. It never spends a turn, so asking cannot end the board.

114 is the ceiling: eight for every entry solved, and up to twenty-six more for finishing with turns to spare.
